QUICK RECAP: The Duquesne women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Georgetown on Sunday afternoon in Washington, D.C.
Duquesne has the game's first shot when Emma Coccia teed off, but her attempt was blocked by a Hoyas defender in the 9th minute. Less than a minute later, the Hoyas got on the board when the Corboz sisters combined for a score. Rachel Corboz found Daphne Corboz, who scored 7 yards out to near side of box off cross from endline past Duquesne keeper Devon Tabata. In the 22nd minute Daphne Corboz had a corner kick. The ball found Marina Paul whose header was rebounded by Vanessa Skrumbis who knocked the ball in. The Dukes only other scoring attempt of the half was in the 33rd minute when a Maddie Layman header off a Haley Yow corner kick was stopped by Georgetown keeper Lauren Trower.
The Hoyas fired nine shots at Tabata in the 2nd half, but did not score. The Dukes had three scoring chances when Maggie Mayo's shot in the 57th minute was wide, Cydney Staton's shot in the 80th minute was saved and Layman's header in the 84th minute was high.
UP NEXT: Duquesne makes their first trip to California in program history with a pair of first-time opponents from the Big West Conference. Sept. 26th, the Dukes will visit UC Riverside and Sept. 28th, they will face UC Santa Barbara. This is the first time since 2001 that Duquesne has faced an opponent from the Big West Conference (Cal State Northridge).
