QUICK RECAP: Duquesne and Marshall battled to a 0-0 draw in the season-opener for both schools at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex in Huntington, W.Va. DU, opening on the road for the first time since 2007, finished with 21 shots. Marshall finished with 16. Duquesne keeper Sam Frymier, who opened last season with four consecutive shutouts, was credited with three saves. Bijan Gloston and Dominik Reining had four saves each for the Herd. Thomas de Villardi and Kadeem Pantophlet, both members of the 2013 Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team, had a pair of shots on goal each for the Dukes. Freshman Jason Twum, one of two freshmen to start the match for the Dukes (George Poppas was the other), also had two shots on goal. Nick DiSomma, Chris Alescio and Bendik Hellstroem all logged 110 minutes for head coach Chase Brooks who used 15 field players on the evening. DU had nine corner kicks to six for MU. Duquesne is now 10-8-2 all time in season openers, 1-0-1 under Brooks.
FROM COACH BROOKS: "We played with a level of energy that we lacked at times during the preseason and that was good to see. We were able to sustain that energy and keep them under pressure for a good portion of the match which was a credit to our fitness level coming in. We were able to create some scoring chances - Jason Twum hit the underside of the crossbar in the first half and Thomas [de Villardi] had a good chance in overtime. We created the chances, and that was important, now its about finishing. I thought we got a great team effort tonight."
