QUICK RECAP: West Virginia scored twice in the second half to end Duquesne's two-game win streak with a 3-0 win at Morgantown, W.Va. It was the final non-conference game of the season for the Dukes who open Atlantic 10 play on Sunday, Oct. 12 at St. Bonaventure. The Mountaineers outshot the Dukes 24-10 in upping their home record to 5-2-0. DU, which played a man down for the final 55 minutes, was the fourth team to be shut out by WVU at Dick Dlesk Stadium. The match was scoreless when Duquesne's Mamadou Traore was red carded at the 35-minute mark. Jamie Merriam buried the ensuing penalty kick to give the Mountaineers a 1-0 advantage. The one-goal margin held until the half which ended with WVU holding a 12-2 advantage in shots (9-0 on goal). Sam Frymier, who finished the match with 13 saves, kept the Dukes in the match until Jamie Merriam took a cross from Alex Ochoa and notched his seventh goal of the season on a header to the right corner at the 70' mark. Jad Arslan added a breakaway goal in the 86th minute to complete the scoring. Duquesne's best scoring chance came in the 80th minute when Chris Alescio's left-footed strike from the left side of the box sliced just wide of the net. Dorian Kouame posted DU's first shot on goal on a roller that was stopped by WVU's Lee Johnston in the 81st minute. Alescio had another chance off a WVU turnover at the near left post in the 89th minute but shot it wide. Frymier's 13 saves tied the third-highest total in school history. The 13 stops were the most by a DU goalkeeper since Fabrizio Moscatiello stopped a school record 21 shots in a 3-2 overtime win at Bucknell on Sept. 13, 1998. The game was Frymier's first in net since a 1-0 overtime loss at Wright State on Sept. 19. WVU, which has given up only five goals in seven home matches, was the first team to score more than two goals against the Dukes this season.

UP NEXT: The Dukes Atlantic 10 Conference play on Sunday, Oct. 12 at St. Bonaventure at 1:00 p.m.
