ATHENS, Ohio - The Duquesne women's basketball held Ohio to just one field goal in the final 9:52 in its 62-55 victory over the Bobcats on Sunday afternoon. With the victory, the Dukes improve to 4-1 while OU falls to 1-3.
Belma Nurkic scored a career-high 19 points which included a personal-best five 3-pointers. Wumi Agunbiade recorded a double-double of 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting and 13 rebounds. Jocelyn Floyd, who leads in the NCAA in steals per game, recorded eight take aways.
Shavon Robinson scored a team-high 18 points for Ohio.
Duquesne started off by missing nine of its first 10 shots from the floor and by the first media timeout, they were down 15-7. Ohio's Alex'ie Baldwin's layup gave the Bobcats its largest lead of the game - 10 points at 17-7 - with 13:55 to play in the first half.
The Dukes chipped away at the deficit and would take the lead at 24-23 after back-to-back layups from Stasia King. OU would regain the lead on the next possession and hold it until Oditte Odisho's 3-pointer with 1:41 left tied the score at 29-29. Robinson's 3-pointer inside a minute gave DU a three point lead at 32-29 before Symone Lyles layup with six seconds remaining closed out the first half scoring with Duquesne leading 32-31 heading into halftime.
The Dukes would keep the lead until the 16:14 mark of the second half when Robinson's 3-pointer tied the score at 38-38. This was the beginning of a 12-3 run capped by Kiyanna Black's jumper. With 9:52 to play, the Bobcats took a 50-41 lead.
Duquesne would respond with a 13-0 run over the next 7:51 aided by three 3-pointers by Nurkic. With 2:01 to play, the Dukes were up 54-50.
Robinson's foul shots with 29 seconds remaining make it a one possession game at 58-55, but Nurkic made four consecutive free throws down the stretch to ice that game at 62-55.
' The Dukes will remain on the road and will travel to Buffalo for a Wednesday evening game against the Bulls. Tipoff is at 5:00 p.m.
