BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Duquesne women's tennis team opened up its 2011 Fall season at the Bowling Green Invitational. Joining the Dukes in the tournament were the host Falcons, Cleveland State, Detroit, Evansville, IPFW, IUPUI, Toledo and Xavier. Team scores were not kept, but champions were crowned at each of the eight singles and four doubles flights.

Freshman Chandler Consonery was crowned Flight 5 singles champion. Consonery went 3-0 with wins over Toledo's Alex Cristello (6-4, 6-3), Xavier's Kally Alkire (6-2, 6-3) and Cleveland State's Kara Sherwood (6-7(1), 6-4, 6-2).

Senior Tara Majdalani was the runner-up in the Flight 6 singles. After defeating IPFW Marcy Huck 6-2, 6-2 and Evansville's Kelsey Costales 7-5, 6-3, Majdalani fell in the finals to Cleveland State's Alex Power 1-6, 7-5, 6-2.

Sophomore Alrissa Tobe was the runner-up in the Flight 7 singles. After receiving a bye in the first round, Tobe defeated Bowling Green's Jade Johnson 7-5, 6-7(8), 6-4 before falling to Xavier's Ally Westling 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.

"This was a great start to Chandler's college career," said head coach Joe Camillo. "She didn't lose focus in the finals after dropping the first set tie-breaker and went on to take the win over a tough opponent in (Kara) Sherwood who was 8-4 at #3 singles last season."

"Tara and Alrissa also played great making it to the finals of their flights," added Camillo. "As senior captain, Tara has improved her game from the end of last season and so as Alrissa. They both battled and played hard for all three sets in the finals of their flights."

The Dukes are off until the weekend of Oct. 7-9 when they play in the Martha Thorn Invitational on the campus of West Virginia University.
