Wexford, Pa. - The Duquesne University women's tennis team captured its second win in a row, blanking Binghamton, 4-0 on Saturday evening, inside the Oxford Athletic Club. With the win, the Dukes improved to 5-8 on the season.
The Dukes controlled the match early by capturing the doubles point before winning three singles contests to clinch the match.
Duquesne opened the afternoon by taking two of the three doubles matches. The pairing of seniors
Alexandra O'Brien and
Taisia Yakunina earned a 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles, while senior
Jasa Roka and Denisse Arinez Guilarte followed with a 6-2 win at the No. 3 spot to secure the point for the Dukes. The No. 1 doubles match featuring
Mila Badics and
Naomi Lalonde was left unfinished.
In singles play, Duquesne quickly sealed the match with strong performances across the lineup. Roka dominated at No. 4 singles, posting a convincing 6-0, 6-0 victory over Sara Kotz. Junior
Sofia Serrano added another point for the Dukes with a 6-0, 6-2 win against Adelie Wilson at No. 5 singles. Yakunina also picked up a win by default at the No. 6 position to clinch the match for Duquesne.
Singles matches at the top of the lineup were still in progress when the match was decided, including contests featuring Badics at No. 1, O'Brien at No. 2 and Arinez Guilarte at No. 3
