Easton, Pa. – The Duquesne University women's team snapped its five-match skid on Sunday, capturing a 4-1 victory at Lafayette during non-conference action inside Courtside Racquet Club. With the win, the Dukes improved to 4-8 overall this season.
The Dukes came out sharp in doubles action. Seniors
Alexandra O'Brien and
Taisia Yakunina secured a 6-3 win at No. 2, while senior
Jasa Roka and sophomore
Denisse Arinez Guilarte were dominant at No. 3, rolling to a 6-1 victory. The No. 1 match was left unfinished with Duquesne holding a 5-3 advantage, as the Dukes took early control of the match.
Duquesne carried that momentum into singles competition, claiming three completed courts to clinch the team victory. At No. 4, Arinez Guilarte delivered one of the day's most decisive performances with a 6-0, 6-1 win. O'Brien followed with a steady 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 3 to put the Dukes firmly in command. Mila Badics sealed the win at the top of the lineup, rallying after dropping the opening set to earn a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 comeback victory at the top spot.
