PITTSBURGH - Duquesne sophomore linebacker Dorian Bell (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway/Ohio State) earned Northeast Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week honors for his performance in Duquesne's 29-15 win at Sacred Heart on Saturday.
He is the third Duquesne defender and seventh DU NEC honoree this season. The first-year Ohio State transfer recorded eight tackles (6 solo) including a pair of tackles for loss as the Dukes held Sacred Heart 117 yards below its season average. Bell added a quarterback hurry and broke up three passes as DU kept pace with Albany atop the NEC standings with a 6-1 record.
Duquesne's defense - which was coming off a 16-0 win at Monmouth two weeks ago - allowed just one short-yardage touchdown drive in posting back-to-back road wins for the first time in its brief NEC history.
Duquesne enters this weekend's game with Robert Morris ranked fifth in the FCS in total defense and first in pass defense.
