Women's Tennis Holds on to Defeat Bucknell, 4-3

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Duquesne women's tennis team made it two wins in a row after defeating Bucknell 4-3 on Saturday afternoon.

The Dukes even their mark at 3-3 on the season heading into their Florida Spring Break Trip next week.

The Bison (0-3) took the #1 doubles point with Lauren Lucido and Tania Varela defeating Rachel McGowan and Zena Williams 8-2. At #2 doubles, the team of Samantha Noble and Ana Mungo cruised to an 8-1 win over Dara Dwojewski and Carlin Calcaterra. Dumitrita Iepuras and Daria Tuzhikova defeated Erin Conroy and Tara Majdalani by a score of 8-3 at #3 doubles position.

The Dukes now needed to get four of the six singles points to win the match - and were victorious at the 3, 4, 5 and 6 positions.

McGowan recorded a straight set victory over Dwojewski by a score of 6-4, 6-1 at #3. Noble was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Iepuras at #4. Conroy defeated Calcaterra 6-0, 7-5 and Majdalani made a comback after being down one set to Tuzhikova to pull out the victory 2-6, 6-2, 6-1.

Spring Break is up next for the Dukes beginning Feb. 28 when they take on Florida A&M.
