PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne women's basketball team suffered its first conference setback of the season after a big second half lifted Dayton to a 75-53 victory on Wednesday evening.
UD's Justine Raterman led all scorers with 17 points and Elle Queen scored 13 off the bench for the Flyers who improve to 16-4, 4-1 A10).
The Dukes (14-6, 4-1 A10) were led by Samantha Pollino with 12 points.
The opening half was back-and-forth to start out. The Flyers build an early 5-0 lead before the Dukes came back to tie the contest. A 14-7 run over the next eight minutes gave Dayton its largest lead of the half, seven points at 19-12.
The Dukes were able to get within a point of tying the game three times - twice in the final minute of the half including Keri Pryor's jumper to close out the first half with UD leading 26-25.
The second half opened up with Pryor converting a pair of foul shots to give Duquesne its first lead of the game since the 12-minute mark of the first half at 27-26. However, it would last only 51 seconds as a Kristin Daugherty jumper put the Flyers ahead and started a 26-7 run over the next eight minutes.
Midway through the second half UD led 54-34 and would see a lead as large as 28 points with four minutes to go.
The closest DU would get would be 18 points at the 2:26 mark.
Dayton finished with 49 second half points.
Up next for the Dukes is a two-game road trip beginning Saturday afternoon at Richmond followed by a Tuesday night game at Saint Louis.
GAME NOTES - The 75 points and 21 assists is the most given up by the Dukes this year
- The Dukes had a season-low seven assists and tied a season-low shooting 30.3 percent from the floor and 50 percent from the foul line
- The loss ends Duquesne's 10-game regular season conference winning streak spanning back to Feb. 11, 2009
- After shooting 50.8 percent in its 52-point win over Richmond, Dayton made 32-of-64 shots for 50 percent, including 21-of-35 (.600) in the second half
