Box Score
Duquesne's men's soccer team improved to 4-3-1 on the season and 3-0-1 at home with a 5-0 blanking of visiting Buffalo Sunday afternoon at Rooney Field. Sophomore Tyler Tompkins had a career day, scoring two goals and assisting on another.
Tompkins set the tone for the game early, firing the first shot of the contest just 1:58 into the match, but it was saved by the Buffalo keeper. As the keeper tried to clear the zone though, junior Ben Horner stole the pass to the far right of the goal and found freshman Joshua Patterson alone in the middle of the box where he buried the ball into an empty net.
Tompkins scored the second and third DU goals in the 25th and 33rd minutes off assists from senior Matthew Groves and freshman Brendan Duffy. Junior Stefan Lundberg tallied his first goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 42nd minute as the Red and Blue took a comfortable 4-0 lead into the locker room.
Sophomore Dave Cassanelli ended the day's scoring in the 70th minute of a defense-filled second stanza off assists from Groves and Tompkins as the Dukes tallied five goals in a contest for the first time since October of 2003.
The Red and Blue return to action on Friday, Oct. 2 as they host Canisius at 7:00 pm on Rooney Field.
