MORGANTOWN - The Duquesne women's tennis team opened the fall season Labor Day weekend at the Martha Thorn Invitational on the campus of West Virginia University. In addition to DU, the event featured Morehead State, Youngstown State and host West Virginia.
The Dukes swept the B Flight, with senior Rachel McGowan and newcomer Erin Conroy winning singles (the duo each made it to the finals, but did not play each other) and Conroy and freshman Megan O'Sullivan taking the doubles flight.
Junior Zena Williams and sophomore Samantha Noble picked up a pair of win in the A Flight doubles. Transfer Ana Mungo had it to the quarterfinals of the A Flight singles before falling to the eventual champion. Sophomore Tara Majdalani split a pair of matches while sophomore Stephanie Novakowski and freshman Amie Kolimas dropped the matches in the C Singles.
The Dukes head to Lewisburg, Pa. for the Bucknell Invitational. The three-day event begins Sept. 18 and concludes Sept. 20.
