LORETTO, PA - Saint Francis ended an 10-game series losing streak in impressive fashion, rushing for 409 yards in posting a 31-14 win over Duquesne in the first night game ever at SFU's DeGol Field.
Jude Yearwood ran for 167 yards and Kyle Harbridge added 150 - including 143 in the second half - as the Red Flash outgained the Dukes 409-16 on the ground.
The win was Saint Francis' first over the Dukes since Nov. 7, 1992, when Duquesne competed at the Division III level. It was SFU's sixth win in a 36-game series that dates back to 1913.
The Saint Francis victory left both teams with 2-6 overall records, including 1-4 marks in the Northeast Conference.
The Red Flash had three runs of 60 or more yards, including two by Harbridge, in outscoring the Dukes 24-14 in the second half.
Both teams had scoring chances in the first quarter. Saint Francis, which started a drive at the Duquesne 11 following a bad punt snap, missed a 24-yard field goal attempt and Duquesne followed by missing a 20-yarder.
Tim Myers scored from nine yards out on a quarterback keeper to give Saint Francis a 7-0 halftime lead. A 26-yard gain on an end around by Omar Winston was the big play of the drive.
Yearwood broke off a 65-yard run on Saint Francis' first play of the second half and scored from one-yard out two plays later to make it 14-0.
Kevin Rombach, in relief of starting quarterback Sean Patterson, drove the Dukes into field goal range on their first possession of the second half, but Duale was wide left, this time from 34-yards out.
Saint Francis made the Dukes pay, as Harbridge ripped off a 62-yard run to the Duquesne five to set up a 20-yard Thiel field goal.
Harbridge struck again, this time scoring on a 60-yard run, to make it 24-0 early in the fourth quarter.
Duquesne averted a shutout when Rombach hit converted quarterback Connor Dixon with a 20-yard touchdown pass with 8:46 left.
SFU's Calvin Williams scored on a one-yard run with just over three minutes remaining.
Rombach, who threw for 139 yards, hit Brooks Roorback with a 23-yard touchdown pass in the waning moments.
Dixon led the Dukes with seven catches for 68 yards. DU had just one run of more than seven yards, a 12-yard scramble by Rombach.
Willie Milhouse and Horvin Latimer led Duquesne with 14 tackles each.
Duquesne returns home to face Wagner (4-3, 3-1) next Saturday at Noon.
