Women's Tennis Sweeps A-10 Weekly Awards

PHILADELPHIA - For the first time in over two seasons, the Duquesne women's tennis team has swept the Atlantic 10 Conference Weekly Awards as Johanna Bezjak was named player of the week and Zena Williams named rookie of the week.

Bezjak earned her second career A-10 player of the week honor after going 2-0 in the Dukes' 7-0 shutout of St. Bonaventure Mar. 14. Bezjak was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 2 singles and took No. 1 doubles, along with Rachel McGowan, 8-1 to help Duquesne improve to 5-3, 2-0. Bezjak was previously named A-10 player of the week Apr. 9, 2007.

Williams earned her second straight rookie of the week honor and third overall this season. She won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles against the Bonnies and took No. 2 doubles, 8-3, with Rebecca Poole.

The last time Duquesne swept the A-10 weekly awards was Jan. 30, 2006 when Jacqueline Hughes was player of the week and Poole was rookie of the week.

The Dukes will be stepping out of conference play to host Youngstown State on March 25th before ending the month against Dayton (Mar. 28) and Xavier (Mar. 29). All three matches will be played at the Club 4 Life in Monroeville.
