Duquesne University tennis players senior Michael Ortega (Guaynabo, PR/Colegio Rosa Bell) and freshman Mikhael Rasner (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) have been named Atlantic 10 Player and Co-Rookie of the Week for the week ending Feb. 3.
Ortega went 4-0 on the weekend, winning singles matches against Bloomsburg (2-6, 6-0, 1-0) and Bucknell (4-6, 4-6, 1-0 (6)) from the No. 2 flight. He also coupled with Rasner to win both doubles matches with an 8-6 victory against Bloomsburg and an 8-5 win against Bucknell.
Rasner also went 4-0 on the weekend, winning his matches in the No. 6 flight against Bloomsburg (6-0, 6-0) on Feb. 1 and Bucknell (6-4, 6-7 (9), 1-0 (2)) on Feb 2. He too, won both doubles matches against Bloomsburg and Bucknell, 8-6 and 8-5, respectively with Ortega as his partner. He is now 14-4 in singles play and 11-4 in doubles play this season.
The Red and Blue return to action on Saturday, Feb. 8 as they travel to Cleveland State for a 7:00 pm match.
