Wexford, Pa. – The Duquesne men's tennis team continued Atlantic 10 play on Sunday afternoon, dropping a 4-0 decision to Dayton inside the Oxford Athletic Club. The Dukes fell to 6-8 overall and 1-1 in conference action.
The Flyers secured the doubles point by taking two of the three matches. Duquesne's top pairing of sophomores
Enrique Lana and
Aril Kayra Tuna was locked in a tight battle at top spot (4–5) when play was halted, but losses at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots gave Dayton the early 1-0 lead.
In singles action, the Flyers quickly built momentum with straight-set wins at No. 1, No. 4, and No. 6. Lana, junior
Austin Lai, and sophomore
Teo Papadopoulos each faced strong opposition and couldn't gain traction, as Dayton extended its lead to clinch the match.
However, the Dukes showed resilience across the remaining courts. Sophomore
Aril Kayra Tuna was battling in a second-set comeback (2-6, 5-5) at the two slot, senior while
Alfrendo Vogelaar was deadlocked at 6-6 in his match at No. 3. Sophomore
Tancredi Alfano was also in the mix late in his second set (1-6, 5-6). All three matches went unfinished.
