Ebensburg, Pa. – The Duquesne University men's tennis team captured a 5-2 road victory at Saint Francis on Friday night, inside the Ebensburg Tennis Center. With the win, the Dukes improved to 5-6 overall this season.
The Dukes set the tone early by claiming the doubles point in convincing fashion. The pairing of
Austin Lai and
Tancredi Alfano cruised to a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles, while
Alfrendo Vogelaar and
Pierce Manning followed with a 6-3 victory at the third slot to lock in the opening point. The top doubles match was left unfinished, but Duquesne had already done the damage.
In singles, Duquesne's depth proved decisive. The Dukes picked up four singles victories, all in straight sets.
Aril Kayra Tuna controlled play at No. 2 with a 6-2, 6-4 win, while Vogelaar dominated at No. 3, collecting a 6-1, 6-2 result.
Austin Lai added another steady performance at No. 4, winning 6-2, 6-3, and
Tancredi Alfano closed things out at No. 6 with a 6-1, 7-5 victory.
Enrique Lana battled at the top singles spot, pushing his match to three sets before falling in a tight 3–6, 7–5, 7–5 decision.
Teo Papadopoulos also forced a deciding tiebreak at No. 5 but came up just short in a 10–7 match tiebreak.
