PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne women's basketball team improved to 6-0 on the season after their 100-42 victory over Niagara Friday night at the Palumbo Center. The 58-point win was the largest margin of victory since the program's inception in 1973.
Five Dukes scored in double-digits led by Kristi Little's game-high 19 points. Jaclyn Babe recorded a game-high four assists and Eve Pyle's eight rebounds was game-best.
Keri Pryor finished the contest with 15 points. Alex Gensler and Rachel Frederick each scored 12 points and Amanda Peck added 11 points for DU who scored 100 points for the first time in 505 games.
After trailing early in the first half, a pair Samantha Pollino foul shots gave Duquesne their first lead of the contest and sparked a 16-2 run, giving the home team a 22-8 lead.
A pair of Gensler foul shots with 1:16 remaining gave the Dukes their largest lead of the first half, 32 points at 50-18.
DU took advantage of 18 NU turnovers in the first half and converted them into 25 points while converting 16-of-31 (.516) shots from the field.
Duquesne continued to pour on the offense in the second half as they came out of the gates scoring 26 of the first 34 points to take a 76-28 lead midway through the half.
Samantha Thompson's 3-pointer with 52 seconds remaining in the game put the Dukes at 100 points for the first time since the season opener in 1990.
A pair of Ali Morris foul shots closed the scoring at 100-42. The win gets the 6-0 Dukes one victory away from tying their best-ever start to a season as well as their all-time longest winning streak.
The Dukes look to go 7-0 Sunday afternoon when they travel to Towson. Tipoff is at 2:00 p.m.
GAME NOTES
- The last time Duquesne scored 100 points was Nov. 23, 1990 when they defeated Valparaiso 116-94 at the Lady Kat Innovational in Lexington, Ky.
- Prior to tonights game, the Dukes largest margin of victory was a 55-point win over Marietta, 86-31, on Dec. 13, 1981; the largest margin of victory in the Division I era was a 49-point win over Saint Francis, Pa., 98-49 on Feb. 6, 1985
- This was only the second time DU has scored 100 points in program history
