PITTSBURGH - Duquesne University Director of Athletics Greg Amodio announced today that Tim Zundel has been named interim head women's soccer coach.
Zundel, 29, had been an assistant coach for the past four seasons under James Walker who accepted a position at Penn State July 18. Zundel helped recruit freshmen classes in 2006 and 2007 that were rated in the top 20 by Soccer Buzz Magazine in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
"We have confidence in Tim and his ability to direct the women's soccer team in a positive fashion," said Amodio. "He has a tremendous understanding of both the personnel and program."
"I am very pleased with the decision and very honored to be promoted," Zundel said. "I would like to thank Duquesne and Greg for this opportunity. I am looking forward to the new challenge."
Zundel began his coaching career at Sylvania (Ohio) Northview High School in 2000. During his three-year tenure, he saw his teams win three consecutive Northern Lake League championships while advancing to the district regional finals each year. The three-time NLL Coach of the Year had his Wildcats ranked in the top 10 in the state during the 2001 and 2002 seasons.
He also served as an assistant coach for Ohio North, an Olympic Development Program, during the 2002 and 2003 seasons leading the `87 and `86 boy's teams. Additionally, he was a staff coach for Pacesetter Soccer Club from 2000 to 2002.
The Cleveland, Ohio native graduated with a degree in criminal justice from Tiffin University in 2000. During his time at Tiffin, he was a four year letterwinner for the Dragons. Tiffin was ranked No. 11 nationally his senior season. Zundel played at the club level for the Sereno Golden Eagles in Phoenix, Arizona and for the Mentor Impact in Mentor, Ohio.
