Princeton, N.J. - Top performances by junior Tom Slosky, sophomore Josh Eddy and senior Chris Horvat in Friday's races put Duquesne into second place at the IC4A Championship at Princeton's Weaver Stadium.
Slosky continued his mastery in long distance competition, winning the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a new Duquesne record time. Slosky's finish of 8:52.08 was 0.53 seconds better than the previous school mark he had set earlier this season at the Duke Invitational.
Slosky, who had already qualified for the NCAA regionals, finished ahead of six others whose time met the NCAA standard. Sophomore Derek Dutille, who edged Slosky in this event at the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships last weekend, finished 10th of 31 with a mark of 9:09.81.
Eddy, who holds the school record in the 10,000 meters, came in second on Friday with a time of 30:38.28. Horvat was third in the 25-runner race at 31:00.97.
The Dukes have 24 points, four behind Liberty University. Eighteen (18) schools earned points on the opening day of this three-day event which continues on Saturday in Princeton.
