Pittsburgh, PA - The Duquesne women's soccer team (0-4-1) opened their home season suffering a 2-1 loss to visiting Wright State (4-0-2) Sunday afternoon in a non-conference bout on Rooney Field. Wright State entered the match on a five-match unbeaten streak which rose to six with their win this afternoon. Junior Faye Rasmussen (Westlake, Ohio/Magnificat) scored her first goal of the season 17:32 into play as junior Audra Mathews ( Cincinnati, Ohio/Saint Ursula Academy) headed the ball to junior Kelly Reed (South Park, Pa./South Park) who in turn fed the ball to Rasmussen 10-yards out on the right side of the goal for the game's first score.
Wright State's Katie Comisar scored at 35:22 for a 1-1 tie which would be taken into the intermission.
Duquesne's freshman Shaina Geisler (Westfield, Ohio/Wash Jesuit) had one of many close opportunities for the Red & Blue taking a shot 4:03 into the second frame which hit the top of crossbar. The game would remain tied until the 71st minute when Wright State's Jen Hansen scored from Megan Mattioda on a bread-away for the 2-1 final.
Senior Keeper Ginny Bondi recorded nice saves on 11 shots on goal while the Raider's Steph Comisar had six saves on seven shots on goal.
In a moral victory, Duquesne is just the third team to have scored on the Raiders who have allowed just three goals to date.
The Dukes return to play this weekend in a pair of non-conference matches hosting Saint Francis (Pa.) Friday at 7:00 pm and Niagara at 1:00 pm Sunday.
