Duquesne University men's tennis coach Rob Castille recently announced the addition of four student-athletes to the 2006-07 roster. Junior transfer Ryan Weisband (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) from Coastal Carolina and freshmen Mark Maciuch (Chicago, IL/Loyola Academy), Jeremy McClelland (Wheeling, WV/Wheeling Park) and Gustavo Villares (Guaynabo, PR/Colegio San Ignacio) are the newest Dukes.
Weisband posted a 6-5 singles record and a 3-3 doubles mark this past spring at Coastal Carolina. In high school, he was an All-WPIAL choice, the conference Player of the Year and a two-time state finalist in doubles action.
Maciuch was the Chicago Catholic League champion at first singles in 2005 and 2006 and was also a two-time singles sectional champion. In addition, he holds the school record for career wins.
McClelland was a three-time OVAC champion at number one singles. He was also a 2005 semifinalist at the West Virginia state tournament and has attained a USTA national ranking as high as 208.
Villares competed at number one singles as a junior and senior and was the Caribbean Sectionals champion of both the 16 and 18-year old brackets. Has been ranked as high as 103 in the USTA national rankings.
