Senior Gary Malinko led Duquesne's men's distance runners by setting a new school mark in the 1500 meter run at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic this weekend in Lewisburg, Pa. The Dukes' short distance runners and field competitors from DU's outdoor track & field team participated at the University of Virginia's Lou Onesty / Milton G. Abramson Invitational in Charlottesville, Va. on Friday and Saturday.
Malinko (Old Forge, PA / Scranton Prep) finished seventh in the 1500 race with a time of 3:49.20. This broke the senior's own school record of 3:50.57 set last season at this same Bucknell event. Malinko finished third in the 800 meter run, finishing in 1:54.17. The Scranton native also holds DU's record in this distance (1:53.52) as well as three others as a member of Duquesne's relay teams.
Senior Zack Dorman (Imperial, PA / West Allegheny) and junior Brent Rogus (Monroeville, PA / Gateway) also finished in the top ten in Lewisburg. Dorman cut the tape at 14:30.23, which was good for sixth in the 5,000 meters, and Rogus was ninth in the 10,000 meters with a mark of 31:45.23.
Senior Bob Healy (Pittsburgh, PA / Baldwin), who set a new school shot put record at Tuesday's Carnegie-Mellon Invitational, was 11th in this event at UVa with a toss of 14.73 meters (48 feet, 4 inches).
Next Saturday, April 22, 2006, the Dukes head to the Island Sports Center on Pittsburgh's Neville Island for the Robert Morris Four Way.
