Duquesne suffered a 57-50 loss to the host Fordham Rams Friday night in an Atlantic 10 bout at Rose Hill Gym. The Dukes were led by Gosia Flag and Jocelyn Chandler with 10 points each and Nicole Sinclair with 10 rebounds and a career-best seven steals. Lisa Carrol led the Rams with 18 points and Stacey Price grabbed a game-best 12 rebounds. The win snapped a seven-game losing skid for Fordham and is the fourth for the Red & Blue.
A 6-0 Duquesne run gave the Dukes a 6-3 edge early in the contest before Annie Zopf hit a three-point goal at 16:06 tying the contest at 6-6. Duquesne held an 11-6 edge at 13:44 on a Jocelyn Chandler goal, but the Rams took a 12-11 lead at 10:28 with four-unanswered points. Duquesne would go nearly five minutes without scoring before Kristi Little's goal at 8:48 gave the Red & Blue a 13-12 edge their last lead of the frame. The host Rams executed a 12-3 run giving them a 24-16 edge at the 2:49 mark and they would take a 27-21 edge into the break. Fordham held a 22-10 rebounding advantage in the first half and out-shot the Dukes .364 (8-22) to .300 (6-20) from the field. Fordham committed 12 first half turnovers to DU's seven, but the Dukes only converted seven points from the Rams' miscues. DU's Nicole Sinclair had five of the team's 10 first half steals - a season high for the senior forward.
Duquesne inched to within a 29-31 reach on a 7-3 run capped by Flaga's three-point goal at 14:08, but the Rams pulled ahead 335-33 at 13:19 on an Erin Smith bucket. Flaga hit her third three of the game at 12:19 to get the Dukes within a 32-35 reach. Fordham jumped to a 43-32 lead via an 8-0 run with 8:23 ticking. Marisa Smith put an end to a 4:24 DU scoring drought for a 34-43 reach at 7:55 before Little hit a three to spark an 11-2 run that would get the Dukes within a 45-47 reach with 4:28 ticking. Zopf netted a three-pointer to give the host a 51-45 edge, but Loui Hall answered with a three for the Dukes keeping them within a 48-51 reach with 2:49 to go. The game would end with the Rams taking a 57-50 win, despite going 4-8 from the charity stripe.
Fordham held a 41-26 rebounding advantage and out-shot the Dukes .419 (18-43) to .319 (15-47) from the field. Duquesne led the effort from behind the arc hitting 7-17 (.412) to the Rams' 5-17 (.293) effort. Duquesne had a season-high 14 steals to lead the game. It was the first loss to the Rams for DU since a 56-70 fall on Feb. 4, 2000.
Duquesne was without second leading scorer Aiga Bautre who sat resting a knee injury.
