Four Dukes Earn Women's Soccer A-10 Honors

Nov. 2, 2006

PITTSBURGH, PA - Four Duquesne University women's soccer players have earned post-season Atlantic 10 accolades announced today by the Atlantic 10 Conference. Juniors Emily Sedgwick (Syracuse, N.Y./The Loomis Chaffee School) and Audra Mathews (Cincinnati, Ohio/Saint Ursula Academy) are All-Atlantic 10 second-team honorees, while Senior Ginny Bondi (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) was named honorable mention. Junior Liz Bok (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) has been named to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference team.

For Sedgwick, a defender, this is her second Atlantic 10 honor. In 2005, she became only the fourth Duquesne player to be named on the first-team All-Atlantic 10 list. She played in 15 of the team's 16 matches, starting each time. Her defensive presence helped Duquesne hold its opponents to 1.68 goals per game.

Mathews, a midfielder, followed up an excellent sophomore season by receiving her third consecutive second-team All-Conference honor after leading the Dukes with 10 points. This was the third year in a row Mathews led DU in scoring. Her goal at Fordham Oct. 6 made her Duquesne's all-time leading scorer with 55 points.

Bondi, a goalkeeper, earns her first post-season honor as an All-Conference honorable mention pick. Bondi started all 16 matches and had a career-high 102 saves, which ranked second in the A-10 and is sixth on the DU single-season list. Bondi's two shutouts this year gave her nine of her career, which is third-best in DU history. Her 360 career saves puts her second all-time at Duquesne.

Bok, a defender, earns her first A-10 post-season honor as an Academic All-Conference selection. She helped DU record two shutouts this season. Bok, a Spanish/communications double-major, is a member of the Dean's List, Director of Athletics' and A-10 Commissioner's Honor Rolls. Additionally, who was tabbed a 2006 District 2 ESPN The Magazine first team District 2 Academic All-America.

The foursome led Duquesne to a 4-10-2 overall record, 3-5-1 in conference. Duquesne ended the season ranked ninth in the 14-team Atlantic 10 Conference.
