Women's Soccer Lands Notre Dame Transfer

Aug. 9, 2005

Duquesne University head women's soccer coach James Walker today announced that Randi Scheller (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown/Notre Dame) has joined the women's soccer team for the Fall 2005 season. Scheller, who played three seasons at the University of Notre Dame, was sidelined the past two years with an injury. Recently, the NCAA granted an extension of her eligibility timeline, thus affording Scheller a sixth year to utilize her final season of competition in the sport. She will be a graduate student enrolled in the Master of Arts program at Duquesne.

A 2002 second team All-Big East selection, Scheller will help secure and lead the Dukes' midfield with her passing and converting ability. Over her three-year playing career, the Irish posted a 53-11-2 record from 2000 to 2002. She was the team's third-leading scorer in 2002 and 2001 with 15 points each season. A Big East All-Rookie pick in 2000, she was Notre Dame's fifth-leading scorer with six goals and seven assists in 2000. As a freshman, ND went 23-1-1 and advanced to the NCAA semifinals. That was followed up by a 17-2-1 showing her sophomore year and appearance in the second round of the NCAAs as well. As a junior, and her final year of competition, Notre Dame posted a 13-8-0 mark and advanced to the third round of the NCAA tournament. In her non-playing years, Notre Dame posted a 20-3-1 showing in '03 and is the reigning NCAA national champs after a 25-1-1 showing in 2004. Her post-season participation can't be beat with six Big East Conference and nine NCAA Championships matches under her belt. Scheller has assisted on four NCAA tourney goals and three Conference championship match scores.

As a prep, Scheller was a two-time Parade and NSCAA All-American at Kutztown Area High School and was a member of the United States Under-18 and U-17 national teams and the U-16 player pool. The 1999 PA Player of the Year was a five-year member of the Olympic Development Region II team and was a 1998 NSCAA All-Region selection. She set her school record with 49 career goals and helped KAHS win its first conference title and make its first playoff appearance as a senior. Scheller was a three-time all-state honoree and four-time all-conference pick. A four-sport standout, she also lettered in field hockey, basketball and football where she became the first girl to kick football at Kutztown High.
