Duquesne Soccer Earns NSCAA Team Academic Award

June 15, 2005

The Duquesne University women's soccer program has earned a top 25 ranking on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) / adidas Women's College Team Academic Award list for the 2003-04 season. A total of 128 Division I women's programs were recognized by the NSCAA and the Dukes were ranked in a tie for 25th with a cumulative team grade point average (GPA) of 3.36. The NSCAA recognized a total of 289 women's programs at all levels on its team academic list.

To be eligible for the award, a team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.00 for the year, based on a 4.00 scale. Only athletes who appear on a varsity roster during the soccer season are eligible in calculating the grade point average and all soccer players on the roster must be included in the calculation. The award is based on the academic performance of a team during the previous academic year (both semesters).

This marks the sixth-consecutive year the Dukes have been ranked among the top 25 Division I Academic teams.

In addition, the NSCAA honored Duquesne's men's soccer program for their grade point average of 3.23, which tied for 17th overall. A total of 73 men's programs achieved at least a 3.00 mark.

This season, Duquesne and 52 other schools had both its men's and women's teams recognized for this academic achievement. The Red and Blue are among 20 programs to maintain this standard the last three seasons.
