Duquesne University's Liz Bok (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) has been named a 2005 ESPN The Magazine First Team District 2 Women's Soccer Academic All-America honoree. She is one of just 23 Division I student-athletes from Pennsylvania, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey and West Virginia to be selected. Bok, will now be listed on the National Team ballot which will be released on Nov. 22.
Bok, a redshirt sophomore, is one of 12 Division I student-athletes named a first team selection. It is her first District 2 accolade. The defender has started all 16 matches for the Dukes who have racked up five team shutouts this season and limited the opponent to 1.56 goals per game. Bok is responsible for marking the opponent's top scoring threat and will change in any situation. She has assisted on three goals this year, including the game-winner vs. Army. Bok missed most of the 2004 slate due to an injury. As a freshman, she saw time in 14 matches with eight starts and took four shots as a defender.
Bok owns a 3.89 grade point average as a communications/Spanish double major, which includes a perfect 4.00 in the fall of 2004. She is also a member of the Dean's List, Director of Athletics' and A-10 Commissioner's Honor Rolls.
To be eligible for the Academic All-America award, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore at their institution, be a starter or important reserve and have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.00 scale).
The Academic All-America soccer teams are the first of 12 that will be selected this academic year.
