For the second-straight week, the Duquesne University women's soccer team remains 15th on Soccer Buzz Magazine's Mid-Atlantic regional rankings list. The Dukes received their first ever regional ranking last week, also at No. 15, after receiving votes in the Oct. 4th poll.
Head Coach James Walker's Dukes (9-4-1, 4-3-0 Atlantic 10) are currently seventh in the Atlantic 10 standings. The top six teams in the A-10 advance to the Conference championship to vie for an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament.
Sophomore midfielder Audra Mathews (Cincinnati, OH/Saint Ursula Academy) leads DU and is tied for seventh in the A-10 with 17 points (5 goals, 7 assists) while freshman forward Shannon Rengers (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) stands second with 16 points (7 goals, 2 assists) - good for 10th in the Atlantic 10. Junior goalkeeper Virginia Bondi (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) boasts a 1.59 goals against average and has three shutouts.
Duquesne is ranked in the top five in numerous categories in the Atlantic 10 as they are tied for second in goals per game (2.21); third in shutouts (five); tied for third in goals (31); fourth in points (6.21) and goals against average (1.57) and fifth in assists (25) and assists per game (1.79).
Duquesne will enjoy a bye-week this weekend before wrapping up the season hosting La Salle (4-9-2, 1-3-1) Oct. 28 and George Washington (4-9-0, 1-4-0) Oct. 30 for Senior Day.
