Duquesne University's Becky Barritt (Denver, Colo./Upper St. Clair - Pittsburgh, Pa.) has been chosen to compete for FC Honka, Finland; a member of the women's soccer Premier League 1st Division. The defender will compete in a six-month season, which runs from May to October.
Barritt, a three-year starter and four-year letterwinner for the Dukes, will travel to Finland immediate after her May 8 graduation to compete.
"I'm truly excited to continue my playing career with such a first-class operation", says Barritt. "Coach (James) Walker played a huge part in getting me the position and I can't wait for the season to begin."
The Premier League is similar to the USL-W League, where Barritt played from 2000 to 2002 for the Denver Lady Cougars team.
Barritt, who played both a midfield and defensive role at Duquesne, was a key component to the Dukes' defense this past season, which allowed just 32 goals and boasted a 1.55 goals against average. She aided in four team shutouts and challenged the opponent's top scoring threat in each match. She served as a midfielder her first three seasons and racked up nine goals and three assists over her career. She was a 2001 USAA All-American Scholar and was named a 2003 Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference pick.
