Duquesne University's Lauren Bracco (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hallow Hills West) and Virginia Bondi (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) have been named the Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Player and Co-Rookie of the Week respectively. It is the first honor for both this season.
Bracco, a senior midfielder, led the Dukes in a two-match road sweep this weekend hitting the game-winning and lone goal in the Dukes' 1-0 wins at Canisius and at Niagara. She netted the winning goal at the 69:51 mark off a header from
Caitlin Holmes indirect kick and hit the deciding score at the 56:16 mark beating out two defenders from
Julie Broden's feed at Niagara. She took 15 shots in the Dukes' three matches this past week. Bracco leads Duquesne with five goals and one assist for 11 points. She has also netted all four of the Dukes' game-winning goals this season.
A freshman goalkeeper, Bondi recorded her first collegiate shutout in DU's 1-0 victory at Niagara. She recorded seven saves on 20 shots on the day in 90 minutes of action. Bondi posted seven saves and allowed just one goal in 90 minutes of action vs. Robert Morris this past week as well. She boasted a 0.50 goals against average on the week going 1-1-0 protecting the net. Bondi leads the Red & Blue with 29 saves and has allowed just four goals (0.81 GAA) in five games and 443:51 minutes of play.
The Dukes improved to 4-2-1 on the season after going 2-1-0 on the week. They are back in action this Friday, September 19, as they travel to Ohio University for a 4:00 pm non-conference match.
