College Park, Maryland - Duquesne University's women's tennis team was topped by number 2 seed Temple, 4-1, Thursday in the 2003 Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship this weekend at The Tennis Center at College Park in College Park, MD. The seventh-seeded Dukes, who earlier shut out St. Bonaventure, 4-0, now move into the consolation bracket and will face the host Colonials at 1:00 p.m. Friday.
Senior Leia Zingone (Lindenhurst, N.Y. / St. Anthony's) gained the lone DU win with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Rene Deyzel in number five singles. Fellow senior Marina Zelenovic (Belgrade, Yugoslavia / 11th H.S. of Belgrade / Missouri) was up one set in the number three singles match when play was halted once the Owls cliched the win.
George Washington (#5) topped #12 La Salle 5-0 in the opening round before dropping the quarterfinal match to #4 Massachusetts, 4-1.
