Coach Walker Announces Recruiting Class

First year Duquesne women's soccer Head Coach James Walker has announced the signing of six student-athletes to National Letters of Intent for the 2003 season. Wearing the Red & Blue next season will be Elizabeth Bok (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit), Virginia Bondi (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville), Rachel Gecik (Westlake, Ohio/Westlake), Jennifer Legge (Silver Spring, Md./Kennedy), Ashley Stelmak (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) and Angela Sanson (Bay Village, Ohio/Bay). It is coach Walker's first Division I recruiting class. Walker took over the Dukes' helm in January 2003 after serving as the head coach the past six years at NAIA Tiffin University where he racked up an 84-33-4 record and advanced to the Regional Final Four each of his six seasons.

Bok, a defender, led her squad to a 19-1-2 mark as a senior and to the Ohio state semi-finals. Her Walsh Jesuit squad reined as state champs in 2001 with a 21-1-1 record and in 2000 posting a 21-0-1 season en route to the state and national championship titles. A three-year letterwinner, she also competed for the Internationals Soccer Club, which captured the 2001 State Cup title. She is the daughter of Chip and Deb Bok.

Bondi, a goalkeeper, helped her Strongsville squad capture the 2002 Division I state championship crown and to a No. 8 national ranking with a record of 18-3-2. The team was the 2001 District semi-finalists and state semi-finalists in 2000. Bondi was named a 2002 second team All-Ohio pick and a first team All-Greater Cleveland and All-Pioneer Conference selection. She set her school record with 16 shutouts as a senior and boasts 34 on her prep career. Bondi also lettered in basketball and softball. Her parents are Gary and Nicette Bondi.

Gecik helped lead her Westlake High squad to the 2001 conference and district championship titles. They were district runners-up in 2002. The goalkeeper was tabbed a first team NCSAA All-Scholastic and All-East selection and to the first team All-Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association team. The four-year varsity starter was named to numerous conference and All-Greater Cleveland laurels and was tabbed a 2002 All-American East District All-Scholastic pick. Gecik was as member of the ODP State team and the Ohio North State Club team. She is the daughter of Gerard and Cynthia Gecik.

Legge, a defender, was a four-year varsity starter as a prep and a four-time All-Montgomery County selection. She has played for the Bethesda Rowdies since 2000 leading them to the 2000, 2001 and 2002 Maryland state championship. Legge has also played for the Olney Tigers and the Bethesda Sting of the Washington Area Girls' Soccer League. She lettered in lacrosse and softball as well and is the third member of her family to play soccer for the Dukes following in the footsteps of her brother Matt (1997-2000) and sister Kelley (1998-2002). She is the daughter of Marilou and Stephen Legge.

Stelmak helped secure the midfield for her Brecksville-Broadview team that captured the 2002 Pioneer Conference title and earned a No. 4 ranking in the state of Ohio with its 13-4-1 record. A four-year letterwinner, she was named a 2002 and 2001 All-Ohio pick and All-Greater Cleveland first team selection. Stelmak also was named a two-time first team All-Pioneer Conference and Cuyahoga County All-Star, as well as the league MVP in 2002. A second team All- Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association pick, she is ranked in the top five in assists at her high school and was selected an all-county and All-Greater Cleveland honorable mention is 2000. Her parents are Ronald and Cynthia Stelmak.

Sanson, a midfielder, led her Bay squad to the 2002 and 1999 Ohio Division II state titles and to the regional finals in 2000 and 2001. The team went 19-2-2 her senior year and posted a state record 18 shutouts on the season. A three-year varsity letterwinner, Sanson ranked third on the team in scoring and received the Bay Soccer Club Outstanding Player Award in 2002. An All-Greater Cleveland All-Star nominee, she also competed for the West Side Stars Soccer Club. She is the daughter of Candy Sanson.

Joining them on the 2003 roster are Amanda Reinhard (Charleroi, Pa./Charleroi) and Christina Goodfellow (Cleveland, Ohio/Beaumont).
