A pair of Duquesne's finest will be honored at halftime of the Dukes' men's basketball game versus George Washington on Saturday, as Don Hastings (class of '61) and Whitney Snyder (class of '83) will be inducted into the Duquesne University Sports Hall of Fame.
Hastings, a member of the Duquesne golf team as an undergrad, is a past-president of the Dukes Court Athletic Association ? the chief fund-raising arm of Duquesne Athletics. Hastings, who will be inducted as a "builder" of the department, will be recognized for his tireless behind-the-scenes work in supporting the Department of Athletics over the last quarter-century.
Snyder, the current coach of the Dukes' men's tennis team, was the captain, No. 1 player and MVP of both the Duquesne golf and tennis teams as an undergrad.
After college, Snyder received masters degrees from Duquesne in both sociology and communications, before playing on the professional satellite circuits in the United States and Australia. Snyder currently is the head tennis pro at Butler Country Club and is a teaching pro at the Oxford Athletic Club in Monroeville, where the Dukes often practice and play home matches.
Snyder earned Atlantic 10 men's tennis co-Coach of the Year in 1998 after guiding Duquesne to a school-best fourth place finish at the Atlantic 10 Championship.
Hastings and Snyder will have their names added to the Hall of Fame Plaque located in the main lobby of the A.J. Palumbo Center.
