Dukes Advance In National I-AA Polls

Duquesne University's football team has moved up in the national Division I-AA college football polls following this Saturday's 46-0 shutout of MAAC Football League foe, La Salle University.

The Dukes (8-0, 5-0 MAAC), who were 33rd in last week's The Sports Network poll, have now moved into 30th place and have moved from 34th to 32nd place in the USA Today/ESPN poll. In addition, the Red and Blue hold down 10th place in the inaugural ECAC Lambert Division I-AA Football Poll.

Duquesne remains the unanimous choice for the fifth straight week atop TSN's Top Ten I-AA Mid-Major Poll and at the head of Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette Top 20 I-AA Mid-Major Poll.

In other football news, freshman running back Kyle Postell (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Football League Rookie of the Week. He carried the ball 17 times for 130 yards (7.68 ypc) and three touchdowns (11, 1, 12) in the win over La Salle. more

Duquesne continues to lead all I-AA football teams in total defense. The Dukes are limiting opponents to 172.25 yards per game, more than 38 ypg. fewer than the number two team, Wagner. DU is also number 2 in pass defense, number 3 in scoring defense and number 3 (from 10 last week) in rush defense.
