Duquesne Basketball To Host Open Practice

Women's team to welcome fans Oct. 6, men's program to follow Oct. 13

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University men's and women's basketball teams will each host an open practice for fans to attend to get a jump start on the 2026-27 season. The women's program will hold its open practice Tuesday, Oct. 6, and the men's team will follow Tuesday, Oct. 13, with each open practice taking place at the UMPC Cooper Fieldhouse.

Tickets for the general public for each of the open practices are $6.00 and can be purchased here for the women's open practice and here for the men's open practice. Duquesne season ticket holders for the 2026-27 season receive free admission and must claim their free tickets prior to the event by contacting the Dean Honda Ticket office either via email at ticketservices@duq.edu or by phone at (412) 232-DUKE (3853). Fans planning on attending should use the A.J. Palumbo Gate located on Magee Street for entrance to either open practice.

For the women's practice Tuesday, Oct. 6, doors open at 5:30 p.m., with practice beginning at 6:00 p.m. Following the conclusion of practice, head coach Dan Burt will provide a preview of the season, and a team autograph session will wrap up the night.

Burt enters his 14th season as head coach of the Dukes and his 20th year on staff overall. Duquesne enters the 2026-27 campaign with a reloaded roster, welcoming seven newcomers to the program. The incoming class features a blend of proven collegiate experience and accomplished international talent, with two transfers and five freshmen joining the Dukes. The non-conference schedule is set for Duquesne, while the Atlantic 10 schedule will be released in the coming weeks.

The 2026-27 roster for Duquesne is one that reflects the program's growing international reach, featuring 13 student-athletes representing eight different countries. In addition to players from across the United States, the roster includes student-athletes from Canada, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Senegal, Serbia and Spain, bringing together a diverse mix of backgrounds and basketball experiences.

For the men's practice Tuesday, Oct. 13, doors open at 6:00 p.m., with practice beginning at 6:30 p.m. Following the conclusion of practice, head coach Dru Joyce III will provide a preview of the upcoming season, and a team autograph session will wrap up the night.

Joyce enters his third season at the helm of the Dukes and his fifth year overall on staff. Duquesne welcomes 10 newcomers to its roster in 2026-27, including six transfers and four freshmen. As part of their 2026 non-conference schedule, the Dukes will take part in the seventh annual Sunshine Slam in Daytona Beach, Fla., a tournament that also includes a home game against Howard, as well as the Hope Gas Backyard Basketball Classic against Robert Morris at PPG Paints Arena.

The Atlantic 10 unveiled its conference slate Tuesday. Duquesne's conference schedule features a home-and-home series with Davidson, Rhode Island, Loyola Chicago, Dayton and St. Bonaventure. The series against the Wildcats bookends the conference schedule, with the Dukes hosting Davidson to open its Atlantic 10 schedule Wednesday, Dec. 30, at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.
