Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University rowing team continued its 2025-26 spring season with a scrimmage against Robert Morris at Moraine State Park. It marked the second scrimmage of the spring for the Dukes, with their first coming at Cornell (March 21) as Duquesne closed the gap on their times from last spring against the Reds.
Due to the high flow on the home course for the Dukes, both Duquesne and RMU headed north to Moraine State Park for the weekday race.
Starting off the day, Duquesne's five boats, three eights and two fours, and Robert Morris' two boats, two eights, lined up and raced four five-minute pieces, with the first four minutes at 32 strokes per minute and the last minute at 34 strokes per minute. Duquesne's first varsity eight pulled away from RMU's boats within the first minute of each piece while the Dukes second varsity eight walked through them during the pieces.
Duquesne's four boats started 30 seconds before and held off RMU's eights.
Stronger winds started to kick in after the five-minute races as all boats lined up for three, 90-second pieces with racing starts in the beginning of each piece. Minus a rate cap, all Duquesne boats stayed competitive, raced fast and had fun.
QUOTABLE
"Having seven boats across made the girls super competitive and kept the overall energy high," head coach
Matt Carlsen said. "As we now enter the middle of our racing season, we want to continue figuring out ways to be successful on the race course and work together to be fast."
