Opening Tip

- The Duquesne University men's basketball team, winners of three of its last four, returns home to UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse in search of its third consecutive victory when it hosts George Washington Saturday in a 2:00 p.m. tip.

- The Dukes are coming off a 71-65 triumph at George Mason (Feb. 4), improving to 4-1 (.800) in Atlantic 10 road games thanks to the win.

- Forward Alex Williams, making his first career start on the Bluff, led the way for Duquesne in the win over the Patriots with a season-high 25 points. He shot 7-of-12 from the field, including 2-for-5 from deep, and 9-for-10 at the free-throw while also grabbing four rebounds and recording a pair of steals.

- Junior guard Jimmie Williams and senior forward David Dixon each supplied 13 points in the victory at George Mason, with Williams also contributing five rebounds, three assists and two steals and Dixon tying for game-high accolades in rebounds (7) and notching two steals and a pair of rejections.

- Duquesne enters Saturday's game against the Revolutionaries ranked third in the Atlantic 10 in field goal percentage (.475) as well as fourth in the Atlantic 10 in scoring offense (82.3 ppg) and three-point field goals made per game (9.43).

- Individually, Jimmie Williams is averaging 17.5 points against conference opposition, which ranks third in the circuit and trailing only DeJour Reaves (19.2) of Fordham and Darryl Simmons II (17.8) of St. Bonaventure.

- The 2025-26 season marks the 110th year of Duquesne basketball. The Dukes started play in 1913-14 (DU did not field a team in 1944-45-46 due to World War II). Thanks to an 83-63 victory over Niagara (Nov. 3) in its 2025-26 season opener, Duquesne earned program victory No. 1,500.

- In today's day and age of college basketball with the NCAA Transfer Portal, Duquesne offers senior forward David Dixon, who will play his final season with the Dukes in 2025-26 and has spent his entire career on the Bluff. Dixon, 6'9" and 230 pounds, owns career totals of 730 points and 536 rebounds and is just the second player in program history to eclipse career totals of both 100 blocks and 100 dunks.

- Dixon is one of just four players in the Atlantic 10 this season that have spent their entire career with one program, joining 6'10" forward Sean Logan of Davidson, 6'10" forward Christian Fermin of VCU and 6'11" center Mike Walz of Richmond. Ironically, each of the four student-athletes to have played their entire career at one institution are post players.

- Redshirt senior guard Maximus Edwards scored 10 points in a 92-80 win over Sacred Heart (Nov. 7) to reach exactly 1,000 points for his career. Named the 2023 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, Edwards scored 722 in two seasons at George Washington before transferring to the Bluff and has scored 402 points in his time at Duquesne. He owns a career scoring average of 9.8 points in 115 games at the NCAA Division I level thanks to 1,124 points.

- The Dukes head back on the road after hosting GW, traveling to St. Bonaventure Saturday, Feb. 14, for a 4:00 p.m. tip at the Reilly Center.

At The Helm – Dru Joyce III was named the 18th head coach in the 110-year history of Duquesne basketball March 28, 2024, and in his second year at the helm in 2025-26. He owns an overall record of 26-29 (.473) in his first head coaching job. Joyce III, a native of Akron, Ohio, spent two seasons as associate head coach for the Dukes under Keith Dambrot from 2022 to 2024, helping guide Duquesne to an overall record of 45-25 (.643), including a 20-16 (.556) mark in the Atlantic 10, during that span. The Dukes made an appearance in the 2023 College Basketball Invitational (CBI) before earning the automatic bid for the A-10 in the 2024 NCAA Championship by winning four games in five days en route to the 2024 Atlantic 10 Championship crown in Brooklyn, N.Y., at the Barclays Center. Duquesne, as a No. 11 seed, made its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 1977 and earned its first victory in the championship since 1969 thanks to a 71-67 win over No. 6 seed BYU in Omaha, Neb., at CHI Health Center Arena.

Scouting the Revolutionaries – Saturday is the 93rd meeting in a series that dates to Jan. 21, 1932 … GW leads the all-time series, 55-37, including a 48-32 advantage during the regular season … In games played in Pittsburgh, Pa., the Dukes own a one-game edge in the series, 22-21 (.513), in 43 contests … The Dukes have won nine of the last 13 meetings between the two programs, with seven of those games decided by six points or less … George Washington is Duquesne's second most-frequent all-time opponent, trailing only St. Bonaventure (138 games) on the all-time list … In the only meeting between GW and DU last season, the Dukes earned a 73-65 victory in Washington, D.C., at the Charles E. Smith Center (Jan. 15, 2025) … GW used a 13-2 run to close its deficit to 62-61 with exactly five minutes to play, but Duquesne scored the next five points, including a tip-in from David Dixon to push the lead for the Dukes to 67-61 … DU sealed the win at the free-throw line, going 6-for-9 in the final 46 seconds … Maximus Edwards scored 16 of his team-high 22 points in the first half.

George Mason Leftovers – The Dukes stretched their winning streak in the all-time series against the Patriots to seven and have also won 10 of the last 11 meetings between the two programs ... Senior forward David Dixon posted a season-high four dunks as part of his 13-point performance ... Duquesne closed the game on a 10-0 run to earn the victory and also used a 9-2 burst after falling down by eight, 58-50, with 7:54 to play ... Dixon and forward Alex Williams combined to shoot 65 percent (13-for-20) from the field ... The Dukes scored a season-high 25 points off turnovers as George Mason suffered 17 miscues ... Each of the 10 players for the Patriots to see action finished with at least one turnover ... Mason outscored Duquesne, 34-30, in points in the paint, while the Dukes owned a 14-6 cushion in second chance points thanks to a 10-9 edge in offensive rebounds.

AWill, AWay – Down two starters at George Mason (Feb. 4), including Duquesne's leading scorer (Tarence Guinyard) and leading rebounder (Jakub Nečas), forward Alex Williams took advantage of his first career start on the Bluff in a 71-65 victory. In scoring a game-high 25 points, Williams became the fourth different player this season for the Dukes to reach the 25-point plateau in a game. He shot 7-of-12 from the floor in the win over the Patriots and 9-for-10 at the free-throw line and enters Saturday's game against George Washington averaging 10.1 points per game against Atlantic 10 competition. He has shot a team-high 86.2 percent (25-of-29) from the free-throw line against conference foes, which ranks 10th on the A-10 leaderboard, while his success rate of 40 percent (14-for-35) from beyond the arc ranks 14th. The Dukes are 4-3 (.571) this season when Williams scores in double figures.

20 Spot – A member of the Dukes has scored at least 20 points in a game on 18 occasions this year after forward Alex Williams paced Duquesne in a 71-65 win at George Mason (Feb. 4) with a season-high 25 points. Senior guard Tarence Guinyard owns a team-high eight games of 20 or more points, with the Dukes 4-4 (.500) in those contests, while the Dukes are 3-2 (.600) in the five games junior guard Jimmie Williams has reached the 20-point plateau. In 32 games last season under first-year head coach Dru Joyce III, Duquesne had just 10 efforts of 20 or more points.

Front and Center – While Alex Williams gave the Dukes a spark in a 71-65 win at George Mason (Feb. 4), senior forward David Dixon was the perfect complement in the front court against the Patriots. Dixon contributed 13 points and tied for game-high honors with seven rebounds in the victory, and of his seven caroms, four were of the offensive variety. Dixon also finished with a pair of blocks at George Mason, the 11th consecutive game he has posted at least one rejection. In Atlantic 10 play, Dixon has finished with multiple blocks in seven of Duquesne's 10 games, including a season-high four rejections against No. 24 Saint Louis (Jan. 20). He enters Saturday's game against GW ranked third in the conference against A-10 opponents with an average of 2.4 blocks per game while also ranking sixth in field goal percentage (.577). Meanwhile, thanks to 25 blocks over the last 11 games (2.27 per contest), Dixon is making a push to move into fourth place all-time in the career record book for rejections. Former center Michael Hughes (2018-21) blocked 177 shots in three seasons on the Bluff, while Dixon sits fifth with 163 career blocks.

DunKing – In 23 games this season, senior forward David Dixon leads the Dukes in dunks with 27 after posting a season-high four in a 71-65 win at George Mason (Feb. 4) and now owns 50.9 percent (27-for-53) of the overall total for Duquesne during the 2025-26 campaign. Included among his theatrics at the rim was a flush at the 8:09 mark of the second half in a 103-59 victory over Canisius (Dec. 22) at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse. The dunk finished No. 1 that night on ESPN's Top 10 plays on SportsCenter.

The Comet – Arguably turning into the most consistent scorer for the Dukes this season is junior guard Jimmie Williams. Williams enters Saturday's game against George Washington having scored in double figures in 18 consecutive games, the longest streak by a Duquesne student-athlete in over 15 years. Former guard Aaron Jackson (2005-09) closed out his career on the Bluff by scoring 10 or more points in each of his final 22 games with the Dukes, which concluded with a 46-point effort in a 116-108 double overtime loss at Virginia Tech (March 18) in the first round of the 2009 National Invitation Tournament (NIT). Over the last 18 games, Williams, who is the only member of the Dukes to be a member of the starting lineup in all 23 contests, has produced averages of 17.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.7 steals per contest while shooting 49.3 percent (109-for-221) from the floor and 85.7 percent (54-for-63) at the free-throw line. Each of the five efforts or 20 or more points for Williams this year have come during his current streak, including a career-high 28 points against No. 24 Saint Louis (Jan. 20). He also posted his first career double-double with 16 points and a career-high 10 rebounds in a 71-59 victory at Loyola Chicago (Jan. 24).

Did You Know? Duquesne owns a record of 19-6 (.760) in two years under Dru Joyce III when holding opponents to under 70 points after a 71-65 win at George Mason (Feb. 4), including a perfect 7-0 record this season.
