Youngstown, Ohio – Two event titles and a pair of record-book updates highlighted the Duquesne University indoor track and field team's performance Friday at the YSU Last Chance Invitational.
First-year standout
Sylvia Kashak captured the 800 meters in 2:11.43, moving to fifth on Duquesne's all-time leaderboard. Sophomore
Lauren Stroka won the triple jump with a mark of 11.82 meters (38 feet, 9.5 inches), while
Rose Kuchera improved her No. 3 standing on the program's 60-meter hurdles list with a personal-best 8.72.
RESULTS
Kashak finished at the top of a 69-competitor field in the 800m, marking her third meet title of the season and second at the distance. The freshman now owns top-five program times in the 800m, 1000m and mile.
Stroka claimed her second triple jump victory of the season, adding to her Ashland Invitational win, with an 11.82m (38-9.5) effort on her second attempt that held for first. Freshman
Devlyn Faber placed third at 11.44m (37-6.5).
Kuchera shaved one-hundredth of a second off her previous best in the 60m hurdles, finishing second in 8.72 to up her No. 3 ranking in program history.
Anna Rorrer (8.79) and
Brandi Brozeski (9.03) also advanced to the finals, placing third and seventh, respectively.
Duquesne placed three athletes in the top seven of the high jump, led by runner-up
Caroline Garbe at 1.66m (5-5.25). Brozeski and
Grace Patterson each cleared 1.56m (5-1.25) to finish sixth and seventh.
Lauren Ciuca turned in a strong performance in her indoor mile debut, finishing third overall in 5:04.74.
Freshman
Melani Schmidt placed fourth in the 400m with a season-best time of 56.59. She also posted a 7.81 in the 60m prelims to qualify for the final but did not start. Fellow freshman
Selma Bajgoric finished 10th in the 400m, also recording a season-best 57.78.
Isabella Costa recorded a fifth-place finish in the long jump at 5.46m (17-11.0).
Nadia Constantakis cleared 3.63m (11-10.75) to place sixth in the pole vault.
In the 800m,
Cydney Blahovec (2:17.21),
Kate Saum (2:18.04) and
Kendall Lucas (2:19.29) all set personal bests, finishing seventh through ninth, respectively, behind Duquesne's meet winner, Kashak.
Grace Senneway led the distance group with a sixth-place finish in the 3000m (10:21.17), while
Sophia Trevenen placed ninth in the 5000m, charting a personal best of 18:51.70.
Madelyn Moretti took ninth in the shot put with a throw of 13.15m (43-1.75).
Senior
Capri DeCaro and sophomore
Charly Schlauch tallied personal bests in the long jump, while juniors
Emma Andreen and Regan Ryen ran personal bests in the mile.
The 4x400m relay team of Rorrer, Kashak, Blahovec and Ryen finished fifth, crossing the line in 3:58.99.
