Ashland, Ohio – The Duquesne University indoor track and field team claimed three event titles Saturday at the Ashland Invitational, led by victories from
Sylvia Kashak,
Caroline Garbe and
Lauren Stroka.
Kashak captured the mile for her second straight win to open her indoor career, finishing in 4:53.40 to place third all-time in Duquesne history. The time marked the fastest mile by a Duke since 2014, as Kashak topped a 30-runner field by nearly four seconds.
Garbe added a win in the high jump, clearing a meet-best 1.67 meters (5-5.75) on her second attempt. The season-best mark gave the junior her third career victory.
Rose Kuchera,
Brandi Brozeski and
Isabella Costa each cleared 1.57 meters (5-1.75) to place among the top eight, with Kuchera recording the first high jump clearance of her collegiate career.
Stroka rounded out the wins by claiming the triple jump with an 11.38-meter (37-4) mark on her final attempt. Teammate
Devlyn Faber finished runner-up in the event with a leap of 11.12 meters (36-5.75).
FULL RESULTS
Isabella Costa contributed a fifth-place finish in the 200 meters, clocking a 25.83 in the first 200m race of her collegiate career. Fellow freshman
Seava Cresta followed in 10th with a season-best time of 26.16.
Duquesne placed three athletes among the top 10 in both the 400 and 800 meters. First-year standouts
Melani Schmidt (58.06) and
Selma Bajgoric (58.18) finished second and third, respectively, in the 400, while junior
Anna Rorrer placed ninth with a personal-best 1:00.07. In the 800 meters,
Reagan Ryen paced the Dukes with a fifth-place finish in a personal-best 2:17.54, followed by
Kate Saum in seventh (2:19.65) and
Kendall Lucas in ninth (2:22.04) in her first career 800-meter race.
Lauren Ciuca placed sixth in the 3,000 meters, finishing in 10:21.12 in her first career indoor race, while
Grace Senneway followed closely in eighth with a time of 10:27.51. Senior
Sophia Trevenen also recorded a personal best in the event, competing in her first indoor race since 2024.
Anna Rorrer,
Brandi Brozeski and
Rose Kuchera all advanced to the finals of the 60-meter hurdles. Rorrer led the trio with a fourth-place finish in 8.84, followed by Brozeski in sixth (9.09) and Kuchera in eighth (9.14).
Sophomore
Charly Schlauch added a sixth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.21 meters (17-1.25).
UP NEXT
Duquesne makes the first of two consecutive trips to Penn State next weekend, competing at the PSU Indoor National on Friday and Saturday.
