South Bend, Ind. – The Duquesne University women's tennis team opened its 2026 schedule on Sunday evening, dropping a 7-0 decision at Notre Dame at the ECK Tennis Pavilion. With the loss, the Dukes drop to 0-1 on the year.
The Fighting Irish captured the doubles points by taking all three matches. Senior
Jasa Roka and junior
Mila Badics dropped a 6-4 decision to Jessica Kovalcik and Akari Matsuno at the top spot. Junior
Sofia Serrano and sophomore Denisse Arine Guilarte fell 6-1 to Gabriella Rawles and Rylie Hanford as seniors
Alexandra O'Brien and
Taisia Yakunina lost to Sophia Holod and Mari-Louise Van Zyl, 6-4.
Notre Dame continued its momentum during singles play, sweeping all six matches. At the number one spot, Badics dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Matsuno while sophomore
Naomi Lalonde fell to Molner, 6-1, 6-3 at the second slot. At third singles, Holod defeated O'Brien 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-3) while Roka was defeated by Van Zyl in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. At the final two slots, Arinez Guilarte fell to Jessica Kovalcik 6-2, 6-0 as Serrano dropped a 6-4, 6-4 match to Gabriella Rawles.
