Maribeth Baker of the Duquesne University bowling team each competed at the
U22 Queens Tournament this past weekend in Allen Park, Mich., at Thunderbowl, advancing to bracket play.
A total of 82 bowlers competed in a pair of qualifying rounds, with the top 32 advancing to the championship bracket. Baker sat 18th after the first day of action with 1,400 total pins over the course of seven games, while Siekierski knocked down 1,272 pins to rank just outside the top 50.
The second day of qualifying action saw Siekierski, a native of Davison, Mich., surge to 28th to advance to the championship bracket. She concluded the second day of action with a total 1,424 pins in block two and finished at 2,696 pins overall.
Baker, a native of York, Pa., concluded the qualifying round with a total of 2,795 pins after knocking down 1,395 during the second day of action. Baker posted a 200 or better in eight of the 14 games during the qualifier, including a high of 245 in game two on the first day of competition. Siekierski, meanwhile, posted six games of 200 or better, including a high of 225 in game two on the second day of action.
Advancing to the championship bracket, Baker fell to Savannah Burgin of North Carolina A&T, 339-323, before falling to Jennifer Patz of Valparaiso, 410-392, in an elimination match. Siekierski, meanwhile, also fell in her opener of the championship bracket, 404-307, to Alyssa Ballard of Vanderbilt. Siekierski rebounded in her first game in the elimination bracket to earn a 399-353 triumph over Arianna Araujo of Louisiana Tech before falling to Burgin, 421-367.
Siekierski was one of three Dukes named to the 2025 All-Northeast Conference (NEC) First Team and will join Baker, selected as the 2024 NEC Rookie of the Year, as the top two returners for Duquesne next season under head coach
Jody Fetterhoff. The Dukes posted an overall record of 58-47 (.552) during the 2024-25 campaign, including a mark of 15-9 (.625) in conference action.
Duquesne made its first appearance in program history in the final of the NEC Championship and concluded the year ranked No. 14 in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Top 25.
