Pittsburgh, Pa. – Taylor Miller of the Duquesne University bowling team was named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Week Wednesday. It marks the first career weekly honor for the freshman after her NCAA Division I debut last weekend at the Chelsea Gilliam Penguin Classic.

Over the course of 137 frames for the Dukes as part of the season-opening competition hosted by Youngstown State, Miller posted an 81.2 overall fill percentage as well as an average frame score of 18.86. She also logged an average of 8.83 on her first ball, earned a 38.4 strike percentage (53-for-138) and recorded a spare conversion percentage of 69.4 percent (59-of-85).

Miller posted the best score by a Duquesne student-athlete during traditional play at the Chelsea Gilliam Penguin Classic, firing a 242 against No. 6 Arkansas State. Over the course of five games in traditional action, Miller finished with 904 total pins, an average of 180.80.

In addition to Miller earning NEC Rookie of the Week, junior Maribeth Baker was named an NEC Prime Performer. In 136 frames as part of the Chelsea Gilliam Penguin Classic, Baker posted an average first ball of 8.97, an average frame score of 19.79 and an overall fill percentage of 84.8 percent.

Led by Jody Fetterhoff, the only head coach in the program's 10-year history, the Dukes finished 3-0 in the championship bracket of the Chelsea Gilliam Penguin Classic to finish ninth. Overall through the first tournament, Duquesne has posted a record of 7-6 (.538).

The Dukes are back in action beginning Friday, Oct. 24, heading to Orlando, Fla., to take part in Destination Orlando, which is hosted by Sacred Heart. Play continues Saturday, Oct. 25, and will conclude Sunday, Oct. 26, at AMF Sky Lanes.
