Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University bowling team continued play in the Chelsea Gilliam Penguin Classic Saturday, hosted by Youngstown State, posting a record of 1-4 in traditional play in Struthers, Ohio, at Holiday Bowl. The Dukes own an overall record of 4-6 (.400) to open the 2025-26 season after five consecutive matches against ranked foes.
POINTS OF EMPHASIS
The Dukes opened play Saturday against No. 3 Vanderbilt, dropping a decision by a total of eight pins, 981-973. Rebounding in its second match against No. 14 Mount St. Mary's, Duquesne earned a 922-897 victory. Following the win over the Mount, No. 6 Arkansas State posted a 1,141-990 victory over the Dukes, No. 1 Jacksonville State finished with a 1,112-902 triumph and the host Penguins, ranked No. 4 in NCAA Division I, earned a 1,036-991 win.

Senior
Emma Siekierski paced the Dukes individually in its first round of traditional play this season, knocking down 979 total pins in five games in recording an average of 195.80. She finished just three pins ahead of a pair of her teammates, as juniors
Maribeth Baker and
Ivanna Fraticelli each closed with 976 pins and scoring averages of 195.20. The trio of Siekierski, Fraticelli and Baker finished 27th, 28th and 29th, respectively, among the individual leaders. Siekierski rolled over 200 in three of Duquesne's five matches, including a high of 212 against Jacksonville State. Fraticelli twice rolled a 213, including in the win over Mount St. Mary's and again to close traditional play against Youngstown State, while the high for Baker on the afternoon came against Arkansas State with a 214.
ROOKIE REVELATIONS
The top three scores on the afternoon for the Dukes came from the two freshmen that are part of the 2025-26 roster. In her NCAA Division I debut in traditional play,
Jazmyn Scott fired a 226 against Vanderbilt and closed with a 223 against the Penguins. Overall she finished with 943 total pins and an average of 188.60. The high game for Duquesne came courtesy of
Taylor Miller, who in the third match of the day against Arkansas State posted a 242. Over the course of the five games, Miller closed at 904 total pins and an average of 180.80.
UP NEXT
The championship bracket is set for Sunday, Oct. 19, at Holiday Bowl, with the Dukes taking on Mercyhurst to open play. Duquesne has knocked down a total of 9,415 total pins through the first two days of action, an average of 188.3 per game. The top total for pins belongs to Jacksonville State, which has collected 10,774 in posting a record of 8-2. Nebraska and the host Penguins, meanwhile, each finished with 9-1 records through the first two days of competition.
