Pittsburgh, Pa. – Fifth-year
Shannon Small of the Duquesne University bowling team added a pair of All-America honors to her tally for the 2024-25 season, as she was named to both the National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association (NCBCA) All-America Second Team as well as the International Bowling Media Association (IBMA) All-America Second Team. The awards were announced prior to the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Night of Champions banquet at South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nev.
Small, a native of Pittsbugh, Pa., is just the second bowler in program history to earn All-America distinction from the NCBCA, joining Olivia Farwell (2018-22), who was named to the first team in 2022. The pair of accolades wrap up an impressive final season for Small, who was also named the
2025 Northeast Conference (NEC) Bowler of the Year, was one of
10 finalists for the IBMA Collegiate Bowler of the Year, presented by Storm Bowling, and was named to the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA)
Honorable Mention All-America Team.
During the 2024-25 campaign, Small paced the Dukes with an average frame score of 20.31 in 1,238 completed frames while also producing team highs in fill percentage (88%), average first ball (9.04) and strike percentage (47.8%). As the anchor bowler for Duquesne this past season, Small recorded an average of 20.14 in the 10th frame while also compiling an 88.4 fill percentage as well as a 49.2 percent strike percentage in the final frame.
Small ranks 26th in NCAA Division I in Player Composite Performance Index (PCPI) at 88.12 percent while also sitting sixth in the country in traditional average according to the USBC with an average score of 209.211 in 38 games.
One of just three bowlers in Duquesne history to be voted NEC Bowler of the Year, Small joins the aforementioned Farwell and
Kiearra Saldi (2020-24) in earning the top postseason honor from the conference. Farwell was named NEC Bowler of the Year in 2019 and 2022, while Saldi was bestowed the plaudit in 2024. Farwell and Small, meanwhile, are the only two bowlers in school history to be named both the NEC Rookie of the Year and the NEC Bowler of the Year.
Led by head coach
Jody Fetterhoff, the Dukes compiled an overall mark of 58-47 (.552) in 2024-25, including a record of 15-9 (.625) in the NEC.
