Hampton, Va. – Fueled by two medal-winning performances and five personal bests, the Duquesne University swimming & diving team surged into third place after day two of the Atlantic 10 Championships at the Hampton Virginia Aquaplex on Thursday.
The Dukes have totaled 182 points after seven women's events. George Washington continues to hold the top spot with 256 points while Richmond sits second after carding 228 points. Fordham (150) and Davidson (121) round out the top five on Thursday.
Seniors
Orla Egan and
Haley Scholer led the way for the Dukes, both earning medals to highlight the day's competition. The second day of events kicked off with the 500-yard freestyle, where Egan claimed the silver medal while setting a new school record and a personal best time of 4:48.52. Classmate
Kendra Joachim also impressed in the event, securing fifth place with a personal best of 4:51.60, while sophomore
Lexi Sundgren finished seventh with a time of 4:55.75. In the consolation final, junior
Aislinn Mooney clocked a personal best of 4:56.04, joined by freshman
Sierra Snow, who also set a personal best at 4:57.93.
The 200-yard IM followed, with Scholer earning her first individual medal of the championships, securing the bronze with a personal best time of 2:00.37. Freshman Surrena Lunna also delivered a strong performance, setting a personal best of 2:04.04. In the 50-yard freestyle, freshman
Kaitlyn Connors was the lone Duke to advance to the finals, where she improved on her prelims time of 23.16 by finishing in 23.08. Classmate
