Hampton, Va. - The Duquesne University swimming and diving team opened competition at the Atlantic 10 Championships on Wednesday, capturing its first medal of the meet at the Hampton Virginia Aquaplex in Hampton, Virginia.
The Dukes currently sit fourth with 73 total points after day one while defending champion, George Washington leads the pack with 107 points. Richmond (83) and Davidson (74) sit second and third while Massachusetts (70) rounds out the top five.
The 800-yard freestyle relay team highlighted the day by capturing Duquesne's first medal of the championships, securing the silver. Team of
Lexi Sundgren,
Orla Egan,
Sierra Snow, and
Haley Scholer clocked in a final time of 7:15.75 to take home second place. Sundgren swam the opening leg for the Dukes while Scholer anchor. George Washington took the top spot with a final time of 7:15.48.
The 200-medley relay team kicked things off on Wednesday, with Duquesne claiming fifth. The team of Scholer,
Sydney Severini,
Ashley Freel, and
Kaitlyn Connors posted a time of 1:40.32, which is a new school record. The one-meter dive also took place on Wednesday, with junior
Ashley Felitsky placing eighth. In six dives, the junior carded a final score of 212.80 for Duquesne.
