Opening Tip

- The Duquesne University men's basketball team returns home to the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse Wednesday to host Fordham in a 7:00 p.m. tip.

- The Dukes are coming off a 77-76 loss at Dayton (Feb. 15), as Malachi Smith hit the back end of a pair of free throws with 6.1 seconds left to lift the Flyers to the victory. Senior guard Tre Dinkins III, who finished with a game-high 21 points, missed a three-pointer for the win as time expired.

- Dinkins III finished 8-of-13 from the field at Dayton, including 3-for-7 from beyond the arc, and also contributed three rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals.

- Junior forward Matúš Hronský added a career-high 16 points at Dayton thanks to a 5-for-7 performance from the floor, including 4-for-5 from deep, while senior forward Jahsean Corbett compiled 11 points, four rebounds and two steals off the bench.

- Eleven of Duquesne's 15 losses have been by seven points or less, including eight by five points or fewer. In Atlantic 10 road games, the five losses for the Dukes have come by a combined 18 points, with Duquesne falling by one (at Dayton), two (at Fordham), four (at Saint Joseph's), five (at Richmond) and six (at Davidson) points.

- The Dukes enter Wednesday's game against the Rams ranked fourth in the Atlantic 10 in scoring defense, allowing 66.6 points per game. In conference affairs, Duquesne has yielded 68.8 points per contest, which ranks seventh in the circuit.

- The 2024-25 season marks the 109th year of Duquesne basketball. The Dukes started play in 1913-14 (DU did not field a team in 1944-45-46 due to World War II). Duquesne, which has posted back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time since 1971 & 1972, are four wins shy of 1,500 as an NCAA program.

- The leading active scorer for the Dukes is senior forward Jahsean Corbett, who owns career totals of 1,538 points and 870 rebounds. Corbett, who eclipsed 1,500 career points with a layup in the first half at Saint Joseph's (Jan. 29), amassed totals of 1,303 points and 725 rebounds in three seasons at Chicago State prior to transferring to Duquesne.

- A two-game road trip follows Wednesday's tilt against Fordham, beginning Saturday, Feb. 22, with a 4:00 p.m. tip at St. Bonaventure.

At The Helm – Dru Joyce III was named the 18th head coach in the 109-year history of Duquesne basketball March 28, 2024. Joyce III, a native of Akron, Ohio, spent two seasons as associate head coach for the Dukes under Keith Dambrot from 2022 to 2024, helping guide Duquesne to an overall record of 45-25 (.643), including a 20-16 (.556) mark in the Atlantic 10, during that span. The Dukes made an appearance in the 2023 College Basketball Invitational (CBI) before earning the automatic bid for the A-10 in the 2024 NCAA Championship by winning four games in five days en route to the 2024 Atlantic 10 Championship crown in Brooklyn, N.Y., at the Barclays Center. Duquesne, as a No. 11 seed, made its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 1977 and earned its first victory in the championship since 1969 thanks to a 71-67 win over No. 6 seed BYU in Omaha, Neb., at CHI Health Center Arena.

Scouting the Rams – Wednesday marks the 52nd game in an all-time series that dates to Dec. 22, 1949, with Duquesne owning a 29-22 (.569) edge … The Dukes won six consecutive games in the series before Fordham earned a 72-71 win at Rose Hill Gym in January of 2022 … The six-game win streak matched the longest by either team in the series … Nine of the past 13 meetings between the two programs have been single-digit affairs, with five of the past 11 decided by five points or less … This is the 10th consecutive season the two are playing home-and-home during the regular season … In the opening game of the 2024-25 series, Josh Rivera's three-pointer with 23.9 seconds helped give the Rams a 65-63 victory … The Dukes had two chances in the final seconds to send the game into overtime, but a jumper from the elbow from senior guard Tre Dinkins III was off the mark and the putback attempt from redshirt junior guard Cam Crawford was strong … Crawford led Duquesne with 13 points.

Dayton Leftovers – Duquesne has dropped seven consecutive games during the regular season to the Flyers and hasn't won at UD Arena since 2012, a span of 12 games ... Dayton shot 54.5 percent (12-for-22) in the second half and 51 percent (25-for-49) overall ... The Flyers finished with more free throws (24) than the Dukes had attempts (22) at the stripe ... Dayton owned advantages in points off turnovers (23-9), points in the paint (40-26), bench points (33-22) and fast break points (17-4), with Duquesne outscoring the Flyers, 19-13, in second chance opportunities ... Enoch Cheeks led Dayton with 19 points, with Zed Key providing 18 points and six rebounds off the bench ... Combined, Cheeks and Key were 14-for-16 (87.5%) at the free-throw line ... Duquesne shot 55.2 percent (16-for-29) from the field in the first half and 48.1 percent (26-for-54) overall ... The Dukes held a 30-29 advantage in rebounds, including a 13-9 edge on the offensive glass ... The Flyers finished just 3-of-13 (23.1%) from beyond the arc, matching a season low by an Atlantic 10 foe for three-point field goals ... St. Bonaventure (home) and Saint Joseph's (road) also finished with just a trio of triples.

Run With The Pack – Matúš Hronský was a lightning bolt for Duquesne in the early portion of its game at Dayton (Feb. 15), as the junior forward reached double figures before the game was six minutes old. He provided 11 consecutive points, including a trio of three-pointers, en route to a career-high 16 points and became the third different member of the Dukes this season to provide a personal run of at least 10 points. Hronský joined redshirt junior guard Maximus Edwards (13) and senior guard Tre Dinkins III (10) in turning the trick and against the Flyers shot 5-of-7 from the field, including 4-for-5 from beyond the arc. Hronský enters Wednesday's game against Fordham ranked 15th in the Atlantic 10 in three-point field goal percentage, having converted 39 percent (30-for-77) of his attempts from deep. A closer look at the personal runs of at least 10 points by a Duquesne student-athlete during the 2024-25 season ...

Player, Opponent (Date) Pts (Half) FG-A 3FG-A Time
Maximus Edwards at George Washington (Jan. 15) 13 (1st) 5-5 2-2 2:31
Matúš Hronský at Dayton (Feb. 15) 11 (1st) 4-4 3-3 2:56
Tre Dinkins III at Saint Joseph's (Jan. 29) 10 (2nd) 4-5 2-3 0:35

Notes: Dinkins III scored 15 of Duquesne's last 17 points at Saint Joseph's over the final 1:19 of action ... Only a pair at the free-throw line from Kareem Rozier against the Hawks separated the personal runs for Dinkins III ... Dinkins III also hit three-pointers in three consecutive possessions in an 85-81 overtime win over SJU (Jan. 8) at the Cooper Fieldhouse that gave the Dukes their largest lead, 50-38, with 15:07 to go in the second half.

Interchangeable Parts – Senior forward Jahsean Corbett hit double figures in scoring for the first time in 10 games by contributing 11 points off the bench at Dayton (Feb. 15) while also adding four rebounds and a pair of steals. Amazingly, Corbett is the 10th different member of the Dukes to come off the bench this season and score in double figures. Even more astounding is that each of those 10 players have produced a double-figure scoring effort both as a member of the starting five as well as a reserve. The only Duquesne student-athlete that hasn't scored at least 10 points as a reserve this season is sophomore forward Jakub Necas, as each of his three double-figure scoring games have come as a member of the starting lineup. The Dukes enter Wednesday's game against Fordham averaging 27.8 points per game from their bench, which leads the Atlantic 10 and also ranks 39th in NCAA Division I. Overall during the 2024-25 campaign, 20 of the 69 (28.9%) double-figure scoring games for the Dukes are from players not in the starting lineup.

Closing In – Junior guard Kareem Rozier enters Wednesday's game against Fordham just five assists shy of reaching 250 for his career, and he's been masterful protecting the rock this season. In Atlantic 10 games, Rozier has handed out 44 assists against just eight miscues in 12 games of conference action, an assist-to-turnover ratio of 5.50. Not only does Rozier lead the Atlantic 10 in assist-to-turnover ratio overall this year (4.09), the total ranks fourth in NCAA Division I. During his career on the Bluff, Rozier, who is Duquesne's active leader for consecutive games played (83), has compiled a career assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.92. He has handed out at least five assists on seven occasions so far during the 2024-25 season, including a career-high seven dimes in an 85-81 overtime win over Saint Joseph's (Jan. 8), with the Dukes 5-2 (.714) in those contests. A closer look at the NCAA Division I leaders in assist-to-turnover ratio ...

Tre Day – Senior guard Tre Dinkins III reached double figures in scoring for the 10th consecutive game, the longest streak by a student-athlete for the Dukes this season, by leading the way with 21 points at Dayton (Feb. 15). Over the last 10 contests, Dinkins III is averaging 16.1 points and 2.6 rebounds per game while shooting 45.2 percent (57-for-126) from the field, including 37.8 percent (28-for-74) from beyond the arc, and 82.6 percent (19-for-23) at the free-throw line. He's also done a solid job distributing over that same time frame, handing out 30 assists (3.00 per game) while also registering 14 steals. Dinkins enters Wednesday's game against Fordham ranked eighth in the Atlantic 10 in three-point field goals per game (2.40) while also sitting 16th in three-point field goal percentage (38.5%). Dinkins III is also 15 points shy of reaching 1,000 for his NCAA Division I career. He scored 669 in two seasons at Canisius prior to transferring to the Bluff and owns a career scoring average of 11.3 points in 87 career contests, including 64 starts.

Downtown – Duquesne connected for 10 three-pointers, including seven in the first half, at Dayton (Feb. 15), marking the 10th time this season the Dukes have reached double figures in triples. In fact, each of the 10 games Duquesne has hit at least 10 three-pointers during the 2024-25 campaign have come in the last 16 contests, a span in which the Dukes are averaging 9.38 three-pointers per game. The surge has Duquesne ranked in the top five in the Atlantic 10 in both three-point field goals made per game and accuracy, as the Dukes sit fourth in the circuit in both three-point goals per game (8.52) and three-point field goal percentage (34.6%). Duquesne is 5-5 (.500) this season when hitting at least 10 triples in a contest.
