From The Pitch

- The Duquesne University women's soccer team continues a three-game homestand Thursday against Rhode Island with a 7:00 p.m. match at Rooney Field.

- The Dukes garnered their first Atlantic 10 victory of the year in their last outing, posting a 2-0 victory over Davidson to open their homestand.

- Scoreless at the half, Duquesne broke through against the Wildcats with a pair of goals after the break. Junior Mackenzie Muir opened the scoring at 50:24, while junior Brianna Moore sealed the victory at 62:14 with her team-high tying eighth marker of the season.

- Duquesne held an 19-12 edge in shots in the victory over Davidson and in nine matches this season has outshot its opponents, 190-79.

- The Dukes enter Thursday's match against the Rams ranked in the top 10 nationally in shots on goal per game (11.11) and shots per contest (21.11), with those averages ranking fourth and eighth, respectively, in NCAA Division I.

- Elsewhere among NCAA Division I leaders, Duquesne sits 13th in scoring offense (2.89) and points per game (8.33) as well as 23rd in assists per game (2.56).

- Duquesne boasts the top two of the top three scorers in the Atlantic 10, with junior forward Margey Brown owning 20 points to lead the circuit thanks to eight goals and four assists, while fellow forward classmate Brianna Moore sits third with 18 points courtesy of eight goals and two helpers. Both have been named Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week this season.

- Brown and Moore are tied for first in the Atlantic 10 in goals with Noel Blain of Dayton, while Moore's three game-winning markers pace the circuit along with Taylor Harrison of Loyola Chicago and Emily Gaebe of Saint Louis.

- A total of nine starters return for the Dukes in 2024, including each of the top three scorers. Junior forward Maya Matesa tied for fifth in the Atlantic 10 in goals (7) last season while posting a team-high 15 points.

- Eleven different Dukes have scored in the first eight matches of the 2024 campaign, with the junior class having accounted for 62 of Duquesne's 75 points (82.7%).

- The Dukes wrap up their three-match homestand after taking on the Rams by hosting Dayton Sunday, Sept. 29, at 1:00 p.m. at Rooney Field.

Scouting the Rams – Located in Kingston, R.I. … Owns a record of 4-3-2 (.556), including a mark of 1-0 in the Atlantic 10 after a 1-0 win over La Salle … URI has matched its win total from last year after the victory over the Explorers … Rhode Island goalkeeper Abby McCarthy earned her third shutout of the season in the win over La Salle … The Rams are led in scoring by Lauren McDonald, who owns nine points (4 G, 1 A), with all four of her goals coming in the last four matches … In her eighth season as head coach of the Rams is Megan Jessee … The Dukes own a mark of 6-12-4 (.364) all-time against Rhode Island but have won two straight in the series, including a 1-0 road victory last year and a 3-2 triumph at Rooney Field in 2022 … In last year's win, Anna Bundy scored the game-winning goal on a feed from Margey Brown at 84:50 to lift the Dukes to the win … In the last meeting at Rooney Field, Duquesne jumped out to a 3-0 lead as forward Brianna Moore opened the scoring and former forward Jaimi Arajuo (2019-23) scored twice.

Scoring In Bunches – Junior forward Brianna Moore didn't score in the first three matches of the 2024 season for the Dukes, but she's made up for that over the last six games. During that stretch, Moore has racked up 18 points thanks to eight goals and a pair of assists. Tied for the team lead in goals with junior forward Margey Brown, the duo is tied for eighth in NCAA Division I in total goals. Karlie Lema of California is atop the NCAA leaderboard with 13 on the year. Moore is also tied for 11th in the country in game-winning goals (3).

Did You Know? Each of the last 11 goals for Duquesne have been scored by a member of the junior class. The streak began with the first career goal from Emma Hospodka as the final tally in a 7-0 win over Slippery Rock, and since that forward Brianna Moore owns six goals, Margey Brown has scored twice and the Dukes have received a goal each from Maya Matesa and Mackenzie Muir.

Tag Team – The offensive explosive exploits of junior forwards Margey Brown and Brianna Moore have the duo on the cusp of joining some exclusive company at Duquesne. Thanks to season totals of 20 and 18 points, respectively, Brown and Moore are looking to become just the second duo in program history to reach the 20-point threshold in the same season. During the 2004 campaign, forwards Audra Mathews (27), a freshman, and Katie Schwager (23), a senior, combined for 50 points, the most by a duo in a season in school history. Mathews registered eight goals and 11 assists, while Schwager tallied nine goals and five helpers.

Defensively Speaking – Given all the numbers the Duquesne offense has put up in 2024, credit also needs to go to the defense. The back line of juniors Eva LaVecchia (794 minutes) and Lindsay Krafchick (784) and senior Mackenzie Leeder (760) have started all nine games for the Dukes and rank first, second and third, respectively, on the team in minutes. Meanwhile, senior goalkeeper Maddy Neundorfer, who owns three shutouts, ranks fifth in the Alantic 10 in goals against average (0.91) and sixth in save percentage (.795).

That Was Quick – It took junior forward Margey Brown all of six matches to become the seventh player in program history to reach the 20-point threshold in a season. She is tied for sixth in the Duquesne single-season record book for points along with Erin McKane, Audra Mathews and Katie O'Connor. Mathews owns the single-season school record for the Dukes in points with 27.

Hey, Junior – Margey Brown and Brianna Moore are at the head of a junior class for Duquesne that is putting up some prolific numbers as a group. Thanks to Emma Hospodka picking up her first two career points with a goal in a 7-0 win over Slippery Rock, she is part of a class that has combined for 128 points over the last three seasons thanks to 45 goals and 38 assists. Moore is the program's active leader in both goals (14) and points (32), while Brown sits second with 28 career points. Midfielder Mackenzie Muir, meanwhile, is the program's active career leader in assists (11) and has scored 25 points, while forward Maya Matesa has tallied 23 points thanks to 10 goals and three assists.
