- The Duquesne University women's soccer team welcomes Bowling Green to Rooney Field Sunday for a 4:00 p.m. match. It's the second game of a soccer doubleheader on the Bluff, as the men's team will host Canisius at 12:30 p.m.
 
- The Dukes are coming off a 2-1 setback to No. 7 Pitt at Highmark Stadium in Station Square. The Panthers scored twice in the second half before junior forward Margey Brown scored her fourth goal of the young season with under three minutes to play to settle the final score.
 
- Duquesne is led by head coach Al Alvine, who is in his 13th season leading the program in 2024. The program's all-time leader for wins, Alvine has led the Dukes to an overall record of 85-92-29 (.483).
 
- Led by a hat trick from junior forward Margey Brown, Duquesne earned a 6-2 victory over Mercyhurst at Rooney Field to improve to 13-15-2 (.467) all-time in season openers.
 
- Brown was tabbed the first Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week of the 2024 season after racking up nine points on nine shots in games against Mercyhurst and No. 7 Pitt. Brown finished with four goals and an assist, becoming the 11th different student-athlete in program history to notch a hat trick with her performance against the Lakers.
 
- A total of nine starters return for the Dukes in 2024, including each of the top three scorers. Junior forward Maya Matesa tied for fifth in the Atlantic 10 in goals (7) last season while posting a team-high 15 points.
 
- Duquesne is off for two weeks after hosting the Falcons Sunday, welcoming Kent State to Rooney Field Sunday, Sept. 8, for a 1:00 p.m. match. The contest against the Golden Flashes will serve as Senior Day for the Dukes.
 
Scouting the Falcons – Member of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) … located in Bowling Green, Ohio … Led by Chris Fox, who was named head coach Dec. 20, 2023, and is in his first season leading the Falcons … Off to a 2-0 start thanks to home victories over Detroit Mercy (8/15), 3-1, and Findlay (8/22), 3-0 … Sunday's game marks just the second meeting between BGSU and DU ... Bowling Green earned a 7-3 win over the Dukes August 27, 2004, in Bowling Green, Ohio … For the Falcons in their win over Duquesne, Kristy Coppes scored six goals, setting both BGSU and MAC single-game records … Coppes went on finish her career as the program's all-time leading scorer with 52 goals and 111 points … Six different Falcons have found the back of the net in the first two games of the season, with Lauren Mahoney scoring the first two goals of the year for Bowling Green in the win over the Titans.
 
Helper Helper – Junior midfielder Mackenzie Muir was directing the offense for the Dukes in their season opener against Mercyhurst, a 6-2 victory at Rooney Field. In addition to setting up each of the three goals scored by fellow classmate Margey Brown, Muir assisted on the second goal by redshirt freshman Hailey Longwell at 52:11 that gave Duquesne a 5-1 advantage. Thanks to four assists, Muir established a new program single-game record in the category. Three other Dukes had posted three assists in a contest previously, the last of which came from Linnea Faccenda (2014-17) in a 3-1 triumph at Dayton Oct. 12, 2017.
   
Top Drawer – Thanks to the performances of juniors Margey Brown and Mackenzie Muir in helping the Dukes open the season with a split, the pair were recognized by Top Drawer Soccer. Each earned honorable mention for Team of the Week, which honors the top 11 players across the NCAA Division I landscape each week.
 
Familiarity – Through the first two games of the season, the Duquesne defense has been led by juniors Lindsay Krafchick and Eva LaVecchia, as each have played all 180 minutes. Krafchick finished third for the Dukes last year in minutes with 1,499 in playing all 20 games, including 19 starts, while LaVecchia logged 1,169 minutes in 15 contests. The active leader for the program in starts goes to sophomore Jayden Sharpless, who has been a member of the starting lineup in each of her 22 games since the start of the 2023 campaign.
